Stage 32 Presents: To Stream or Not to Stream... That is the Distribution Question

Happy Thursday, Creative Army!

While you may have missed out on getting to attend Cannes in person, you certainly won’t miss out on the incredible insights that were shared there!

At this year’s Cannes 2024, Stage 32 hosted a fantastic expert panel exploring the pros and cons of distribution deals, ranging from theatrical to streaming to self-distribution, providing insights into the best options for producers today.

Moderated by Emma Louis Smith (ACCA, Finance Strategist, Monaco), our distinguished panelists Lee Broda (Executive Producer of APPRENTICE), Tiffany Boyle (President of Ramo Law, OH CANADA), Sara Elizabeth Timmins (Producer at Life Out Loud Films), and Amy Baer (Executive Producer of APPRENTICE) discussed whether the back-end pay from the days of peak TV is truly a thing of the past, if mid-budget films can ever find a successful opening weekend in theaters again, and so much more!

Enjoy Cannes directly from your screen of choice by watching the video below!

Richard "RB" Botto I think the Paramount exec who made the deal left and the replacement pulled the plug. LOL, now I'm thinking about how great that concept is. Seriously. I may have to revisit it.

Excellent discussion, RB! Amy Baer talked about knowing who the audience is up front (filmmakers and screenwriters). She said, “you can’t just not know who it’s for and hope that someone figures it out.” I used to write scripts without knowing who the audience was, but now I figure that out when I outline a script. Knowing who the audience is up front makes it easier to write the script and pitch it.
