About Mark

I was born and raised in a small town in Texas. I did well in school, developing a love of writing very early on. I spent summers off writing short stories on an old Remington manual typewriter my Grandfather gave me.

I joined the Navy in 1980, and became a Navy Hospital Corpsman. I became an FMF (Fleet Marine Force) warfare specialist, and eventually qualified as an IDC (Independent Duty Corpsman). I served in peace and in war, right alongside my Marine Corps brethren. I retired from active service in 2001, a few months before the towers fell.

I had gotten back to writing in 1995 as a way to deal with the emotions associated with my divorce from my first wife. But instead of short stories, I concentrated on feature film screenplays. After retirement in 2001, I kicked it into high gear.

After many rejections and knocking on a lot of closed doors, I finally launched my first project, DELIRIUM. I wrote, produced, directed, and edited in 2005. We secured a DVD release deal in 2007. In 2008, the market crashed, and the money I had lined up for my followup feature disappeared. But struggling on, I was able to write and co-produce EARLY GRAVE in 2013.

2014 brought a Stage 4 Throat Cancer diagnosis, and everything came to a screeching halt while I battled for my very life. As I write this, I am 17 months in remission from a cancer that only has a 23% survival rate at 12 months. So I am a success story.

As of this writing, I have a suspense thriller, RESTITUTION, set up with Terror Films, Inc., an L.A.-based production company. Their recent films include TRACE, and THE CHOSEN. Principal photography is scheduled for next year, 2016. I have also recently landed representation with AQA (Age Quod Agis) Entertainment, an L.A.-based boutique management company.

I do not know what the future holds. I do know that life is precious, and time is the rarest of commodities. And I know I shall continue to fight and win in all aspects of life, both public and private.

Unique traits: Low budget and micro-budget feature films. Horror, thriller, science fiction, film noir. Having produced and directed in the past, I know how to write a script with a Producer's concerns in mind.
