About Odet

"I have always perceived knowledge as the key to the complex equation of my world. As a mathematician, I believe that professional reward does not come with discovering the truth, but in seeking it. As a director, I uphold the idea that Art is an illusion which helps us grow aware of the truth. As a dreamer, I promote the right of young people to be activists and change the world for the better now."

Between 2006-2012, Elena worked across classical theatre plays, experimental performances, commercials, and dancing workshops. In 2013 she wrote the script and co-directed the short film “1, 2, 3… Until you find me”, which won an award for Refinement in Visual Concept. Since then she has developed in-depth knowledge of the film-making process as she produced and directed several narrative fiction and documentary projects. Throughout the production of these films and other videos, she has been responsible for directing, producing, crowdfunding campaigns, video editing, administering schedules, and creating efficient workflows for her crews.

"My work in all these projects helped me to develop important skills such as coping with time limitations and coming up with practical solutions to achieve results."

  • A COMMON CONNECTION

    A COMMON CONNECTION (2015 - 2017)
Documentary (Documentary) Director/Producer/Co-Editor The film explores whether two strangers can be connected through the random people they know. Paul is a blind software engineer from Glasgow who loves to visit the local art gallery. Grandma Dobrina is a housewife from a small village in Bulgaria. She speaks only Bulgarian and spends most of her time with her hens. The film follows a journey starting from Paul with the idea of reaching Grandma Dobrina through several connections. The film explores how people can be defined not by their social habits or national belonging but rather by their actions, desires and personal motivations. The goal of the film is to show the way we connect with and "sense" each other in a human manner and how a camera and the film making process can capture this. The film is an experiment which tests the "six degrees of separation" theory. This theory claims that everyone is six or fewer steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world. This means that a chain of a friend of a friend statements can be used to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps.

Anima is a free spirit soul, mysterious and vivacious who likes to explore her relationship with her bathroom, where she often writes in her diary. Gary is a shy and modest guy, inspired by Anima’s philosophy about life. The film should bring palpable, alive energy. “Life is like a bubble. Today you see the world upside down. Tomorrow it may burst. In one moment you believe that pigs do fly…”
