Welcome to my profile page. I've been around for a while, but not actively in the filmmaking world for many years. I'm working my way back. Here's a little bit about me.
A few basic bullets:
— I majored in Film, studying film production, film history, and film theory in college (undergrad & grad school)
— I also majored in Art History
— For a time I as an adjunct professor of documentary filmmaking at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication
— Owned a couple commercial video production companies many years ago
— In the days of analog film cameras, I was a professional photographer (lots of weddings, events, portraits, fine art)
— For a while I had a graphic design company
— Was COO for a small creative agency and marketing firm
— I managed a television studio for a while
— I directed live newscasts for NBC (fastest 30 mins of your life, longest 3 seconds of you life when things go wrong)
— I was a producer for several local government television programs
— Years ago I won several short film festival contests
— Recently I have won/placed in some screenplay competitions
— BUT... for the past couple decades I've worked in the tech industry and been thinking about filmmaking again
Today I'm focusing on screenwriting as a way back to filmmaking. I plan on being a producer and director as well.
I love writing. I love stories. I love the poetry of images and the feelings I get when a movie moves me. I bring a lot of lived experience to my screenwriting, from teaching college to television directing, from running a businesses to rummaging through used book stores, from professional photography to publishing poetry, but mostly I just love movies. Always have. And I’ve always called the Pacific Northwest home, and always been searching for the highest mountains and the greenest valleys, always seeking the finer light (that’s what I tell myself). But truly, I’m amazed at the ineffable mystery of each person I meet. I come to you as a writer but, just like you, I’m so much more. And I write to discover who I am and also who you are.
