About Michelle

HELLO THERE,
My name is Michelle Angawa (she/her)

Filmmaker, Climate Justice Enthusiast, and VR/AR /XR Curator. I am an introverted lover of stories who has been playing with cameras since the age of 14, filming and editing short clips that may never see the light of day.

Seeking a deeper understanding of stories, I attended Multichoice Talent Factory(MTF), a year-long filmmaking program where I learned basic filmmaking principles and storytelling for the African context. There I co-wrote and co-edited the film Promises, that bagged the Best Student Feature at the 2020 AMVCAs.

At MTF, I also discovered a newfound love for stories and initiatives that drove social change. That's how I joined my roommate and friend, Adala Makhulo in her venture and co-created Exposition Media, a digital show that curates courageous conversations among the youth in Kenya.

I am also an alumnus of the La Femis L’Université D’été, Paris, a diverse documentary filmmaking program where I developed a passion for real-life storytelling and officially became multilingual. Oui, en plus je parle Français.

I was part of a VR/360 program facilitated by the Goethe Institut, Black Rhino VR, and Dada Trust that led me to discover the power of Immersive Journalism and VR as an empathy machine My first official VR project was Ndani, a 360 experience which depicts the struggle of a young woman who has Agoraphobia; fear of unfamiliar situations.

With time, practice, and training opportunities, I continue to master the art every day and hope to someday bring positive social impact to my community.
