About Derrick

Growing up in south Arkansas and making movies since I was eight, my first break came In 2005, when my short, war film caught the attention of an IMAX proprietor. They asked to show my tiny film before their screenings of Ang Lee's Ride With the Devil during December of that year.

Since 2005, I've photographed a dozen features and many more shorts, music videos, and adverts. In 2011, I stepped into the director's chair for the feature film, Come Morning. That film premiered at the 2012 Austin Film Festival and received praise from critics at NPR, Film Threat, WeGotThisCovered, and more. Come Morning won a special jury award for cinematography at Oxford and Best of Fest at the Charles B. Pierce Film Fest. After a limited theatrical release in 2013/2014, it was released on BluRay, DVD, VOD, and Digital. It's currently available on Amazon Prime.

After directing a second feature in 2016 (The Perfect Host: A Southern Gothic Tale), I moved my family and my production company to New Zealand where we continue to produce.
