Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Jina Anika spent her childhood immersed in musical theatre, with roles in A Chorus Line and Pirates of Penzance. She commenced piano at age five, and at seven, joined the Amadeus Children’s Choir. She began writing lyrics and composing original music at the age of twelve.
As the front-woman of Modern Day Poets (MDP), a rock band formed in 2015, Jina has been hailed for her raw lyricism and captivating stage presence. In June 2018, Jina was hired to tour in the USA with Catlow. March 2019, she went on tour with Indigenous singer-songwriter Taryn Laronge from Vancouver to Toronto and back as Via Rail’s “Artists On Board.”
Since Jina began working in film, she has been recognized as a charismatic, fearless and versatile performer. Appearances include The Twilight Zone (2020), Supergirl (2020), The Arrangement (2017) and Ice (2017). She has also produced and directed short films and music videos, which can be found on her website.
