Essex Entertainment is seeking an accomplished Film Director for HYBRID, a high-end fantasy series currently in development for streaming distribution. The world of HYBRID blends grounded human drama with magical, creature-driven elements, presented with a sophisticated visual style and atmospheric tone inspired by “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”
Season 1 will establish the core mythology, character arcs, and cinematic identity of the series, requiring a director capable of world-building, emotional storytelling, and large-scale visual execution.
The Director will define the narrative and visual language of the first season. This includes guiding performances, shaping the fantasy elements with realism and depth, and collaborating with creative leads to ensure a cohesive, cinematic experience across all episodes.
Establish and execute the fantasy-driven visual style and tone inspired by Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Direct all Season 1 episodes on location in Mexico City (March–July) and Canada for Post-production (August-October).
Collaborate closely with producers, writers, and department heads to develop the world, characters, magical elements, and overall narrative structure.
Guide cast performances and oversee blocking, staging, and camera language.
Work in partnership with cinematography, production design, VFX, creature/character design, wardrobe, and post-production teams to ensure a seamless fantasy aesthetic.
Participate in pre-production development, including lookbooks, shot lists, and visual planning.
Provide creative oversight during post-production rounds (editing, color, VFX, and sound design).
Experience directing fantasy, sci-fi, or visually ambitious narrative projects (episodic or feature).
Strong bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish (required).
Ability to travel and reside in Mexico City and Vancouver for the entire production and post-production schedule
(all travel and housing fully covered by Essex Entertainment).
Demonstrated experience working with VFX-heavy productions.
Strong mastery of cinematic world-building and character-focused storytelling.
Ability to lead large international crews in fast-paced environments.
Previous work on fantasy or creature-driven genres.
Experience with multi-episode arcs for streaming platforms.
Strong creative sensibility aligned with atmospheric, magic-realist, or dark-fantasy storytelling.
Familiarity with both North American and Latin American production ecosystems.
