We are preparing to make our first short film—a 15-minute non-narrative work currently titled Seijaku. This is an art film in the lineage of filmmakers like Godfrey Reggio and Ron Fricke, grounded in poetic rhythm and visual presence rather than conventional storytelling. Seijaku will likely feature improvisational dance (especially contact improv), dancers in wild landscapes, footage of whales and other wildlife, and meditative images of nature. But more than that, it seeks to innovate how dance, movement, and attention are filmed—and felt. I’m seeking a co-writer and co-director—not just a collaborator in name, but a true creative partner. This film cannot be mine alone. Its integrity depends on being born from shared vision and shared trust. To keep this collaboration grounded and practical, applicants must live in (or near) Santa Fe—within about an hour’s drive. Ideally, you’re local. If you’re drawn to non-narrative work, experimental form, ecological and embodied aesthetics, and deeply relational creative process, I’d love to hear from you. While Seijaku is intended to be a work of art, not a documentary film, per se, it is also intended to shed light on the plight of whales in an ocean now crowded with myriad kinds of noise pollution, including military sonar, ship engines, etc. So this is for the whales as much as it is for the artistic heart.
