Looking for a cinematographer (editing skills a plus) to join in on the early stages/spearheading of a children's educational youtube channel called "Cheetah Pickle". This is a freelance/contract position with the potential to become a long-term partnership/bigger paycheck for the right fit. For four weeks beginning in January, this would be a once-a-week 3 hour shift for a total compensation of $300 ($75 per session).
A bit about the creator and project: Carlyn Flint is a playwright and screenwriter with an MFA in Dramatic Writing from USC and Bachelor's in Theater from Vassar College. She is also a teacher and was a 2013 Teach For America corps member in Tulsa, OK. She runs an educational business called "ARTademics" (www.artademics.com) which has allowed her to spend the past six years developing an original arts-infusion literacy curriculum.
"Cheetah Pickle" is a culmination of her skill for storytelling, understanding of children's interests, and built knowledge of how to teach children to read and write. This Youtube miniseries will combine humor and funky puppetry with a child-tested and classroom-proven reading curriculum. Think SpongeBob Square Pants meets Sesame Street, with a hint of Wild Kratts adventure.
If you read the synopsis below and find yourself invested in developing this concept into something larger, please do reach out. We are looking for someone who can bring their expertise of the camera and sound to an experimental puppet show.
Synopsis: Many years ago, an alien race relegated all food mutants (literally anything combined with a food) to Planet Doof. These aliens left a written blueprint, thought to be the key to building a rocket ship that would allow the food creatures to leave and explore outer space. The problem is, no one on Planet Doof knows how to read the letters. They know each letter communicates a sound, but which sound? Enter Cheetah Pickle: the prophesied "sound pickle" who is instantly recognized by the telltale sign of his extra (third) ear. Believing that he is the key to their escape into the wider universe, the inhabitants of Planet Doof enlist Cheetah Pickle to find the sounds hidden on their planet and crack the letter codes that will allow them to build their rocket ship. And so Cheetah Pickle sets off to figure out how to read and write, accompanied by Sprinkle Cat, Ca-Cow and Professor Burger.
