Composing : Topic Sensitive or not by Joel Irwin

Topic Sensitive or not

One way slicing and dicing us composers could be whether we score any available film that is offered or whether we decide not to score a film based on its topic or 'political statement'.  There are many others reasons (like timing and finance) that are outside the bounds of this particular topic.  And another consideration could be where we are in our career - for example, we are more likely to score a film perhaps earlier in our career that we would pass on further on.

I was thinking about this yesterday with mother's day coming up on Sunday.  I watched for the first time in a long time, a film I scored (one of my 35 credits) in 2015 called "Mother's Day".  I did and still take on any projects offered.  Back then (and perhaps today), amazingly I was so 'ignorant' about the screenplay that I didn't realize until after I scored the film, that the twins depicted in the film didn't really exist.  Nonetheless, the film is a topic which while controversial back in 2015 is even more so today.

So would you score this film given the opportunity or not?

P.S. - I still really like the score I wrote.
