About Paul

A native of Portland, Oregon, I received a double BA in English Literature and Spanish at the University of Oregon before earning my MFA at the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television. My recent film, "Just Ask..." has already won six awards on the festival circuit, including five prestigious Awards of Excellence from the Accolade, IndieFest and Best Shorts Global Film Competitions. My award winning Sci-Fi film "Wide Awake in Nothing" has screened at numerous festivals worldwide and enjoyed a long run on the Independent Film Channel.

I have produced, written and directed a number of other award winning films (both narrative and documentary), many episodes of a web based sit-com, as well as industrial commercials. My screenwriting work includes original screenplays, as well as working as a freelance screenwriter, script doctor and editor. I have been commissioned to write and/or rewrite feature screenplays for a variety of production companies in Los Angeles, New York, London and Athens.

I continue to develop a number of feature film writing and directing projects, including the war photographer drama "Shoot the Dead," the Sci-Fi thriller "Star Sailor," the horror film "The Hive" and the romantic comedy "The Politics of Dating."
I am also the screenwriter, creative producer and second unit director of the upcoming sports comedy "Swing Away," which recently filmed in Rhodes, Greece, and a co-writer on the forthcoming TV series "Dystopia."

Besides all my writing and directing, I do work as a cinematographer and colorist as well. The indie feature "Cold Water," that I shot and colored, recently premiered in Estes Park, CO (where it was shot) and is due for distribution in the coming year.

In addition to all this, I taught Critical Film Theory/History at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles for five years.

I love movies. I love making them, talking about them and teaching others about them. I'm a storyteller and love working with like minded people who enjoy the hard work, intellectual and artistic challenges that filmmaking provides. I wouldn't ever do anything else.
