I've got an outline for a story set against the anti-smoking rules that beset psychiatric hospitals a while back. The central plot is a benevolent murder that goes awry. My concern is that two plot lines are one too many for a short film. It takes place in a hallway and in a large room called a day hall. Is this more suited to a feature length or do I have to take a sharp blue pencil to it?
How short? 5 minutes? 30 minutes?
As the longest film I've shot was of my granddaughters at a dance recital, I have no clue. By the way, that was under five minutes. I was thinking 10 to 15 minutes, but I haven't written it out yet. Outline only. At a minute a page, I think I'll need the 30 minutes. I need to work on this. Fortunately, this is likely to be very low budget. How much is a pack of cigarettes these days?
I think I'll scribble it out first, do a walkthrough with a friend who has done stage work, and clean it up.
