Be patient, the graphic artist may want to have story input but they have to illustrate. Make sure you are a fan-so really scuitwnize work samples. I don't micro-manage. What ever your expertise, I will defer to it. To me graphic artist are like stars so I treat them as such. I now a semi-known Youtube celebrity. He an associate but he rejected an offer to collaborate. I thanked him for hearing me out. Last, identify supportive artist because you don't need hold-ups during the process. Goodluck!
