I'm a video/film editor and I wondered if it's best to move to New York or LA. Some people say editors don't need to move because it can be done remotely. I have contacts in New York and LA so I'm not moving there blindly not knowing anyone. (I'm currently living in Orlando, Florida) I have been getting gigs here and have established very well for someone who only lived in the States for 2.5 years but is it wrong to want more and bigger projects? (Reason for moving)
Hmm good point.

I'm with Dan. Los Angeles. It's the heart of where post takes place. Some films and some shows based in NY cut there, but the vast majority are in LA and that's where the opportunities will mostly arise. And I don't think the director-editor /showrunner-editor relationship can't exist remotely, or at least not optimally. You need to be in the room working with the person with the vision to feel the nuances of what they're after through not just their words, but their body language and their instant reactions. And they need to feel you are with them on the roller coaster emotionally and viscerally. It's also a lot easier to walk down the hall and grab the Showrunner or director for ten minutes and get notes right then and in-person than hoping he or she opens your email, watches the file and emails back a set of coherent notes. Either way, LA or NY is expensive. Good luck!

There is a lot more competition for work out here as well so keep that in mind.
I know you have your sights set on NYC or LA, but what about Atlanta? Tons of movies and shows are now going to Georgia for the tax breaks. IDK, just a thought, it's always good to have a plan B and C...and D
