Here to network, hang out, and connect (and escape from my kids).
Have a crazy niche to offer as a coppersmith, tinsmith, metalsmith and the like. So I can make you things. From scratch. From original tools. In my garage.
Can offer historical expertise (1700 - 1890) and consulting. (Or if I don't know, the old smiths I hang with at convergences do!) Research on the cheap. Because it's fun. Also. Escape from my kids.
Thanks Dan. Ha! Let’s see if it serves any purpose. :)

HELLO Sara, I am a Costume Designer and an Applied Artist. I work in historically accurate stuff too! So far this site has had little to offer me... BUT I am still holding out to see what happens.....I would love to see how it goes for you too!

Hey Casey - we'll have to keep in touch to see how things pan out. I'm here because I am so very frustrated with seeing historically inaccurate things on tv and film. People just google it and don't actually send an email to people who might know (and will happily, and often freely give advice) the answers. If you're going to make a historical film, you have a responsibility to portray the time period as accurately as possible or risk perpetuating incorrect myths. I've had to shut off whole miniseries because the very first word spoken on screen is in a different language and it's the WRONG WORD. I was like "and off. because they couldn't even research the proper word?!?" And I'm not even a master of said language and I knew it to be wrong. People use the wrong cookware, wrong lanterns... That's why I'm here to offer my craftsmanship and knowledge (on the cheap) just to keep the stories straight. steps off soapbox :)

HAHAHAH.... I can't tell you how many times I have seen zippers in clothing before they were even invented in films... they show people sewing on machines that are from the wrong date.... fabrics and dye colors that were not invented yet... I hear you, boy I hear you.......

And I know most people don't notice/know some of the details. But...why get them wrong when there are people out there who will willingly share the info (and, in my case, be able to supply the proper items?)?

Sara and Casey--I know it can be frustrating; not only the historical inaccuracies, but also the seeming lack of interest here on S32. Stay active here and be patient, the connections will come. For myself, I'd love to use both of you, but don't have any projects up and running at this time. That could change in a minute - you never know. But hang in there, chat, post, etc., and if nothing else, you'll be building relationships with creative people. That's never a bad thing.

John! You are so sweet!! I so appreciate your supportive mindset. I've only been on S23 for a short time, but man, it's been so much fun already, and I've had a great time meeting everyone on here! If you all were up in Wisconsin, we'd have to have a party (when the snow melted) just to meet! ha! But anyway, thank you again for your words. :)
