Shooting Medium

Hello, my fellow stage 32'ers.

I have a quick question. I need to fill a form related to a short film. They ask me the "shooting medium"?

Is the shooting medium the camera it was shot in? Is it digital or film?

If anyone can help me, with would be greatly appreciated.

Beth Fox Heisinger

I assume they are asking for format: digital or film, etc, and what type. ;)

Thanks, Beth!!

Vasco - the cost of a completed 35mm one reeler is way beyond the means of nearly all Indie Filmmakers today. Your medium is nearly always going to be digital - I don't know anyone who shoots on 8mm film but I do know a couple who still shoot 16mm (I've done it.) I suspect they are looking for aspect ratio (16x9 is most common) and image density (2K & 4K are most common). The majority of small time filmmakers are using full frame DSLRs in a High Def (1920 x 1080) format. I've recently used a 4K mirrorless DSLR and been pleased with the output.

Thanks, Doug!!

We just shot a 12 minute short on a 16mm. I love that world. But you're right Doug. A prerequisite for shooting film today - be prepared to sell your first born and mortgage the house!

Interesting question, my first instinct is shot for FILM or TV.

Brian - I love 16mm but I ask you how many feet of stock did you burn to get a 12 min finished film and what was your cost per finished minute? Costly, eh?
