Hi all, I am just curious and wondering if anyone can share some insight of your own experience with VOD systems?
Are you using a sales agent to get your movies into Netflix, Amazon and such? or are you self-distributing?
What's your revenue look like? If with sales agent, is your quarterly report shows a decent or maybe just a dollar or two?
Three movies I'm involved with just got VOD deals via Ammo Content and am curious of the revenue report system... I've also read from Stacey of Film Specific this:
"But I can speak from my own personal experience too in working with dozens of distribution clients and film market clients over the last couple of years, that distribution revenue numbers range from making a couple thousand dollars over the course of a year (yes, you read that right) to making six figures in distribution revenues over the course of a year.
Yes, that's a big range of numbers I know but I can tell you sometimes the higher revenue is due to promotion the filmmakers did to push the title out there, but sometimes it's not - sometimes a film just gets legs in the marketplace and an audience embraces it."
So, if anyone would like to shed some light?

Never heard of Ammo Content, but that doesn't mean they're not competent. Surprised you signed away additional films without waiting for Ammo's track record on your first film. Check out Linda Nelson's distribution podcast on Indie Film Hustle. It's a little dated but very helpful. She's with Indie Rights, one of the top VOD distribs and active on FilmSpecific.
Thanks Eric. It wasn’t my choice really. Lol sales agent got this exclusive deal with them and all his films automatically gets vod deals so I didn’t have time to “hold it” per day. I prefer the traditional method than the vod.
Further to Erik's point we have used Indie Rights for our features and they have been pretty good to work with. Because we are working with them it has allowed us to pursue some of our own self distribution opportunities outside of the streaming services.
David and Erik, a couple of questions. First, I've heard Indie Rights do not charge marketing fees And a common split 80/20. Second, I've heard they are pretty good getting you on VOD platforms but you have to do all the promotions and drive the traffic yourself. Third, are they cool if I'll ask to curve out certain rights like say DVD rights or use them say only for foreign distribution and will do VOD myself. Looking forward to hear more about the possibility working with Indie Rights.
Don that is correct in regards to the split marketing fee and doing your own marketing for the film (which I am fine with because it lets you control that aspect of it). In regards to your third inquiry probably best to reach out to them directly.
David can you share your experience with Indie Rights in regards to placing your film on platforms. Which VOD platforms they are working with? If you’re more comfortable you can PM me.
Don send me a PM and we will chat
