New to screenwriting and looking to get a series up and running
I've been writing off and on for decades, but I have an idea that I love for a sci-fi series and I've written the pilot and have the majority of the first season planned.
Without assuming you do or do not know what I'm about to suggest below, what I would do is:
- Understand TV series development end-to-end, including how to write a TV series pitch bible
- Learn how to pitch and practice practice practice. Did I say practice? I mean to say practice. :-)
- Get professional feedback on your script from a reputable company. I love getting coverage from three professional readers independent of each other.
- Start pitching and evolving your pitch.
I am in no way affiliated with Stage32, but I've taken their webinars and they are very helpful and very affordable. They also have script coverage, consulting, and pitch services. Sure, you're going to spend a few hundred, but if you make a plan and start executing, you'll understand where you stand and what you need to work on.
In summary, learn the world of TV, get your series bible and pilot vetted and polished, then once you're ready, start pitching. Good luck and have a blast!
Kevin Clawson Welcome to Stage 32! Nice to have you as a part of the community! You’ll really enjoy it. There are so many wonderful people to connect with and resources available to you.
If you ever want additional feedback on your script, feel free to check out Stage 32's script coverages as well to get feedback from professionals in the industry.
If you’d like some guidance on who might be the best person to connect with, feel free to reach out to Stage 32's Director of Script Services, Jason Mirch at j.mirch@stage32.com can point you in the right direction.
