Hey all! I’m currently using different video editing software to my usual software and experiencing some issues rendering and exporting. I thought someone here might be able to help!
So I’m using DaVinci Resolve and my 20 minute film is only Rendering and Exporting the first 3 minutes and 27 seconds. Does anyone know why and how to fix this?
I know this is probably a little different to the usual questions and hope it’s ok I posted this question here.
Hi Matthew Wauchope.
My partner and I have been using Davinci for professional use for years now and we've had very little problems with it compared to any other NLE.
Here are a few things I'd try if your project doesn't render, some not so important but a few are very important.
1st. delete your temp video files in your cache folder.
You can do this in Davinci under Playback menu Delete Render Cache then All.
2nd. go manually into your cache folder and delete anything left over manually
This might cause the project to work a little slower for a while when editing.
3rd. very important! On the Deliver tab in the video options under Advanced uncheck Bypass Reencoding when possible, Use optimized media, Use proxy media because this uses the cache files.
4th. very important! also on the Deliver tab under file option set your Render Speed down from Maximum to try something like 75% or even 50% depending on your drive.
Sometimes the problem is that the rendering happens too fast and the drive cache gets full and drops writing a file.
By the way did you get any error messages why the render failed?
If you did you might want to check your project for Media Offline because Davinci is set to stop rendering if there is Media Offline on the timeline.
Sometimes you can get an error with the same thing and then set Davinci to ignore Media Offline but it can also cause you to have offline media in your project.
One of the last things I would do is check if you have any weird media files used on the timeline. Something that Davinci doesn't like to deal with like weird codecs and odd file types and similar stuff.
Hope some of this helps you and if it doesn't let me know and we can figure out what's wrong with your project in another way.
Best of luck.

Thanks Vital Butinar . The rendering actually says complete/100% and the software doesn’t detect an issue so no error message. I’ll see if any of these work though.
Do check these things and if it doesn't help get back to me and we can connect in privet.
Maybe I can even check out your project remotely via teamviewer or something and try to get to the root of the problem.
I've really been surprised how little problems I've had with Davinci compared to anything else and last year I even solved a huge bug in a huge narrative project that even Blackmagic wasn't able to figure out, so I've got quite a lot of experience with NLEs.

Also make sure that you don’t have and in and out point set on the deliver page!
Also a really good point Sam Chambliss!
Probably the most lightly too.
I use DaVinci - it's a bit of a head ache.
Really Cherelynn Baker. How come?
I started using a very simple NLE when I started out but gradually got to the stage where I can use Davinci or Avid comfortably and I must admit that compared to the headaches that I get with simpler NLEs are nowhere to be found in Davinci. For the first time when editing I enjoy opening a huge project and editing.
Matthew Wauchope were you able to render or at least figure out what went wrong?

Vital Butinar unfortunately no not yet. I ended up unusually busy for a weekend with some things that took priority so i was unable to try many of the possible fixes suggested here and on FB. The project isn’t urgent yet which is lucky as it’s not on my Laptop (hence the unfamiliar program). The owner of the laptop however is taking it to some friends who know a bit about exporting from DaVinci to see if they can help.

Hey Matthew Wauchope were your friends able to get the issue fixed? I'm curious what it was.

Sorry the laptop owner and project director have taken it to friends. In all honesty I’m the only one with any editing skills in my circle of friends. (Still can’t wrap my head around DaVinci though).
Unfortunately I haven’t heard back yet however I found a DaVinci FB group and from what they have said it seems like it may simply be the in and out point you mentioned.
I used to do quick export but when that didn’t work for this project I used a YouTube video to learn about the deliver page. I didn’t look at any settings the video didn’t touch on not wanting to mess anything up but this includes the in and out points.
I’ll do another post to let you all the know the problem when I know myself.
Matthew Wauchope that's great that you're finally getting the project done.
In and out points could be the cause of the problem.
Yeah Davinci has a few quirks but all in all I love it and honestly right now I think it's one of the best professional level NLEs available and they're still making it better.
I just hope that they don't fall into the cycle of making it better for the sake of adding new features like many others do without actually improving the software only to sell more product.
I haven't used Premiere Pro and Avid for many months now and I don't even miss them but I do miss Davinci when working with Premiere. Which is really funny.
Premier pro is one I more familiar with. just a couple of small quirks of the program to figure out but have a work associate helping me do that. I’m familiar with Avid but haven’t used it for years.
Hey all! I’ve been very busy lately and left Stage 32 for a couple months so sorry this post is so much later. Just thought id let you all know that I eventually found the issue, a little check box hidden in the middle of the screen someone had unchecked.
Thanks to everyone who commented.
