Introduce Yourself : So, is this like AA? by Doug Kayne

Doug Kayne

So, is this like AA?

INT. MULTIPURPOSE ROOM. NIGHT

A few people sit around in folding chairs in a circle. Some hold coffee cups. A table is nearby with coffee and cookies. TOM, the facilitator of the group, breaks the silence.

TOM

Would anyone else like to speak?

DOUG (50, yet plays younger on-camera) raises his hand slightly.

DOUG

Yeah. I can go.

TOM

Go ahead.

DOUG

Hi. I'm Doug.

GROUP

Hi, Doug.

DOUG

It's been...twenty-two years since I've sold my first screenplay, Romantic Comedy 101, to E! Entertainment Television. Since then, I've been toiling away on the comedy stage. I've been in quite a number of improv and sketch comedy groups. Even now I've been performing regularly with Those Four Misfits -- shameless plug, by the way, ThoseFourMisfits.com. I've also been writing still. Got the first season of a science-fiction comedy series pretty much ready to go. Really, I'm here in order to meet you all, network, and collaborate.

TOM

Thank you for sharing this with the group, Doug.

DOUG

By the way, do you validate parking?

TOM

Would anyone else like to speak?
