Introduce Yourself : Introduce Yourself by Alexandria Smith

Introduce Yourself

Hello this is, Alexandria Smith again. I have a question.

This question is for everyone! I am only asking in hopes that I am not the only one who have this problem or feel this way.

But... say for example, there are certain topics that trigger you based on your personal experiences. Say you have a TV show idea and don't want this topic in any of your episodes.

What if certain ideas or concepts trigger you based on what you experienced?

I do want to publish my work but, since I am autistic and certain things trigger me to a high degree based on my experiences. I am just in refusal to use certain ideas or plot topics in my storylines.

If anybody else, has this issue, how do you handle this?

I do want my work to be enjoyed by millions, I still would like to enjoy it for myself as the creator. I don't want my own work to trigger me like shows on TV have potential of doing. I want my work to make me happy as the maker. I like to limit my creations so they are not like anything on TV that may cause me to cry, that's the point of why I write as well.

I can't comment on your personal reactions, but most of what I've heard suggests that is exactly what one should write about. Why write about anything else? One can transfer their specifics to other's generals. I am not in a situation such as yours, so I cannot identify with it in a meaningful or professional manner. This lounge should be a good place to get useful feedback.

Hi, Alexandria. I get what you're saying and asking, and I hope this isn't too harsh, but writing that keeps you comfortable isn't pushing the emotional boundaries that good writing should.

Hi Alexandria, my son is autistic so I've seen firsthand some of what you are talking about. It may be hard to push past your reactions, but I think the world needs to see more about what autistic people go through and who better to explain and communicate it than you? Maybe that's not what you want to write about now so go with what makes you comfortable, but I hope you find a way to share your experiences.

do you know how many books have been written about this problem? wouldn't hurt to get ideas from reading them if you have time.

my son was born with a cleft palate. needed 10 surgeries. i wrote about it but it was not funny.
