Interactive TV/Film/Documentaries connecting producers to fans

As professionals in the industry, you may be aware of the growing use of QR codes on screens and the emergence of shoppable TV. There have been attempts in the past for audio watermarking media. Do you think the timing is right for its implementation in 2023? Are you curious about how it could be used in your own work? I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts.

David Abrookin

Honestly had to google how audio watermarking works, but outside of using it to protect copyrights, I'm not sure what the applications could be. What do you think, Roland Storti?

Nick Waters

I think there is a lot of opportunity for companies like Amazon to link products they sell into the content they release.

Thanks for the comment.

I see numerous opportunities for producers and viewers alike. In this now world people want information and connection instantly. Where is that location? I really want more information on that topic/story. Where can I buy that dress?

Currently product placement is passive, what if it was interactive and people could buy that dress or toy and the producer gets new revenues for the limited line or a stock dress at Walmart. This is the tip of the iceberg.

The most important use case is providing a connection to fans.

Happy to send you more info and would like to hear why it wouldn't work.

Sam Sokolow

People have been working on “eye it and buy it” technology for 2 decades and at some point it’ll come together. May be narrative or some other content but I’m sure we’ll see it soon. Not sure this year but since Walmart divested from VUDU then Amazon seems like the best bet. We shall see.

There are some clunky attempts at it but audio watermarking is the most seamless.

@Sam Sokolow, I could see the GENIUS series using interactive TV to present b-roll that didn't fit into the 45min piece, links to other sources of info and a fan engagement page that would allow you to survey fans providing 3 options for a next season. the real data could be used to increase network interest.

I am confident it can happen this year.
