Critique my colorist reel!

Hi all, I'm aiming for a job at a post house as either an assistant editor or colorist. I have recently completed my color reel and would appreciate critique and job hunting advice! Thanks.

Hi Thomas - great work here! I love how you pull the essence of each scene out with your coloring - this isn't just saturation but story telling with your art. The car work is beautiful and the daylight greenhouse scenes are brought out nicely and the techno-action stuff is really supported well. Nicely done!

It is challenging to critique someones color because it's very subjective. I looked at your V2 reel on Vimeo. I was confused about your terminology of Rec 709 then Final. Rec 709 is a color space you deliver in, what was your Final suppose to be? Was that Rec 709 also? If so you might want to do an overlay explain what is in you 709 spot. Generally speaking your color looked alright. Don't take that the wrong way. If you worked with anyone that functioned as a client, that would be good practice. Have you approached any schools around you and their film departments? It's very challenging to get into a Post House. That's just in the door and working inside. If you have the opportunity to do that, once in make friends with the creatives and do a lot of free work. Off the clock of course. I have thousands of hours, literally, of my own time learning and hoping and finally getting opportunities. There's a lot of talented people on YouTube and other places teaching color, everyone professing to be a professional. It's challenging to sort through all of it and I've been at this for a while. Look for people to be your client, even if for free if you have to to get practice. Good Luck.
