Introduce Yourself : Hello. My name is Terri. by Terri Morgan

Terri Morgan

Hello. My name is Terri.

I joined Stage32 last year. I'm a writer, performer, and it seems I'm becoming a director and producer, too. Pleased to meet you.

I'd been posting a bit of my work on other sites, entered a couple of writing contests, and asked some friends for feedback. They liked my stories. I asked more people, some with tv/movie industry experience. They liked my stories too. At that point, I was only asking if they might be willing to take a look. That's a much easier ask. I was looking for an agent who could introduce me to one of the large publishers that said (MSWL) they wanted a story like mine - family-friendly, fun, sci-fi, martial arts, adventure.

Didn't happen.

I'm still not sure if it was me, my presentation, or my work. The key element - someone being willing to sell it - seemed missing. Too this, too that, Not enough this. Too much that. Not the right background. Not enough name recognition. There was always going to be something I didn't have, didn't have enough of, wasn't experienced enough with, or just wasn't quite right for. I've heard that too much for too long.

So I looked at what I had at the time, what I could do, and what it would take to do something. What to do? I can't make a film. Not yet. I'd need concept artists and clothing designers and set designers, and oh so much more.

What about a podcast? In the style of a radio drama? With voice actors?

I started looking into that. I needed to learn several things about getting to a real, working script - not an ideal wouldn't it be great if script. And then I needed to sort out a whole host of things that I knew about but hadn't really paid attention to ... until I needed to answer someone's question or set up a scene.

If it were not for my theatre training, it wouldn't have happened. If I hadn't spent years competing and organizing international martial arts tournaments, it wouldn't have happened. If I didn't have the tech skills to set up the site and podcast syndication, it wouldn't have happened.

And most importantly, if it were not for Stage32, it would not have happened.

The community here gave me the insights, the courage, and the swift kick to push me to learn more.

The creative talent I met here made the promo happen.

Many thanks to Mike Hall, Jennifer Bonaparte, Rick Lundeen, Ricky Boyles for their excellent work.

From the beginning, I was clear about what I had - great idea (my ideas are always great and so are yours) and a vision for what I wanted but no funding. I needed the promo so other people could hear what I could hear - a radio show. I did promise that I would promote the show and that it could go far.

As of today, our show has been heard in 130 cities in 26 countries.

The numbers of people who have heard the show are still modest. That will grow over time as we produce more shows and develop the markets. I'm very happy at how far we've managed to get.

Next, we need funding and maybe an executive producer to do the first full show. I'm pitching. We're ready to start rehearsals. As one social media friend put it, you're on the runway, taxing for take off and you're still building the plane? Yup. Would you care to join us?
