Introduce Yourself : Broadcasts from the Edge (and hello!) by Matthew Wade

Broadcasts from the Edge (and hello!)

I’m Matthew Wade, a writer/director/animator (and reluctant producer when necessary—deep respect to those who do it by choice). I’ve released two features: How the Sky Will Melt (2015), shot entirely on Super 8mm and currently streaming on NoBudge, and A Black Rift Begins to Yawn, which premiered at Slamdance in 2021, receiving Honorable Mention in the Breakouts category. It’s now available on the Slamdance Channel.

I’ve also written, directed, animated, and edited a number of shorts—including Plena Stellarum, Maniac Landscapes, and Eyes at the Specter Glass—all of which premiered in Oscar-qualifying festival competitions.

Right now, I’m finishing production on my third microbudget feature, a genre horror film we expect to complete post on by mid-summer. I’m also seeking collaborators and financing for my next project: Vicious Visions, a script I spent two years developing. It’s a bold, stylized horror film walking the line between arthouse dread and the charged, colorful energy of ’80s and ’90s studio horror.

I make all my films in Idaho, pulling together ambitious work on minimal budgets with the help of friends, family, and a deep love for the weird and beautiful textures of this region. Every project so far has found a home, and I’m looking to take the next leap—toward larger-scale, more formally daring work.

Let’s talk shop, swap ideas, and build something wild together.

Congratulations on releasing two features, finishing production on your third microbudget feature, and all your success! I'll have to get NoBudge so I can watch How the Sky Will Melt.
