New Webinar! Equity Investment In Film: How to Attract Private Investors

One of the biggest challenges you’ll face as a filmmaker is finding investors and raising real financing for your project. You may have an award-winning script, a strong team, and a clear vision — but without funding, none of it can happen. While the industry seems saturated with projects getting greenlit or crowdfunded, most filmmakers are left asking: Where is everyone finding these investors? And how are they convincing them to write checks for independent film? The good news: it’s not luck, it’s strategy — and it starts with knowing how to approach the financing process like a pro.

The ability to raise and close financing is what separates successful filmmakers from those stuck in development. Many creatives assume that a great script alone will attract money. While story matters, investors need more than passion — they need a well-structured offer, a smart return strategy, and the confidence that you understand the business of film. Too many filmmakers fumble these early conversations by over-promising, under-preparing, or coming off desperate. To succeed, you must understand deal structures, returns, legal considerations, and most importantly, how to communicate with investors in a language they trust and that builds the confidence for them to invest in you. This webinar will give you those tools and teach you how to get in front of the right people, at the right time, with the right pitch.

Hi Emma - thanks for the great webinar. My question concerns the idea of "first money." A couple of good, highly accomplished producers have expressed interest in my script. They said, "if you have access to potential investors, it may give your script a better chance." I'm assuming they may want some "first money." What % of a film's production budget needs to be in the kitty to get things moving. Attachments, so forth. I've had some say 10% as "first money" can get things moving. Of course, first money is most at rsk. Is 10% of good ball park figure?
