Hi, Rob Lindsay, thanks for this thought-provoking question. Aurum Vitae serves as an alternative form of judgment. Given the traditional notion of heaven as a reward for the righteous and hell as a punishment for the evil, Agent's situation is unique. Since he's not quite dead nor fully alive – his body lies in a coma – he can't be sent back to life, nor can he enter heaven or be condemned to hell. In other way, he can't be judged like our beloved who slept and never wake up.
This liminal state sets the stage for his journey, where he must take fate into his own hands. By navigating the 10 Gates and confronting their gatekeepers, Agent aims to earn immunity from judgment in the heavenly realm and immunity from earthly death.
Since everyone talks about life and death, I thought of creating a notion about life in a coma. So, ya... that's Aurum Vitae - The Golden life which gives immunity from judgement and death.
