Introduce Yourself : Hello, I'm Kaitlyn! by Kaitlyn Kiesling

Kaitlyn Kiesling

Hello, I'm Kaitlyn!

Hi everyone! My name is Kaitlyn, I'm a wife and mom from Canada (beautiful British Columbia!), and I'm a self-taught screenwriter. I've always been writing, since I was old enough to hold a pencil ... so over two decades. I was in my 20s when I realized my passion for movies should be married with my passion for writing. I didn't have the confidence back then to pursue film school (and now I don't have the money to afford it), so I bought all of the books I could find. I have a lot of writing projects on the go (because that's how I operate, lol); I've been mostly writing feature films, but I do have a half-hour tv pilot completely written. I'm an open book, so if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask! :)

Hi, Kaitlyn Kiesling. Great to meet you. I'm a self-taught screenwriter too. I started writing scripts in high school. I wrote short stories before that. What's your favorite genre(s) to write?

Andi Watson

I'm self-taught too, Kaitlyn - I think I've read pretty much every book on screenwriting there is!!

Kaitlyn Kiesling

Maurice Vaughan That's awesome! I'm trying to dabble at a little of everything (because I love to watch almost everything). I have been working on more comedy scripts lately, but then when I'm rereading them I'm questioning if I'm funny enough and maybe they're dramas? XD

Kaitlyn Kiesling

Seth Garber I'm about 4-5 hours away from Vancouver :)

Maurice Vaughan

I love watching Comedies, Kaitlyn Kiesling! They're fun to write too.

"when I'm rereading them I'm questioning if I'm funny enough and maybe they're dramas?" Maybe Dramedy?

Kaitlyn Kiesling

Andi Watson - What's your favourite book for screenwriting (like EVERYONE must read this one!)? I don't think I've read enough yet, but I really like "How to Write a Movie in 21 Days" :)

Kaitlyn Kiesling Your passion and drive really shine through. Being self-taught often leads to fresh, original perspectives, and that unique lens can result in stories that feel truly one of a kind. Looking forward to hearing them.

Kaitlyn Kiesling - It’s great to have you here. We seem to share a similar journey—I’ve had a passion for audio since I was a kid, constantly listening to different genres and cycling through my mom’s CD collection. I eventually joined band and orchestra, played in a few college bands, but for a while, I didn’t see a clear career path in it. I ended up stepping away from music in my early 20s. Fast forward to my late 20s/early 30s, I decided to take the leap and pursue a degree in audio engineering—and I haven’t looked back since. I’m excited to see what you create and how you grow here, especially with all the incredible opportunities for collaboration, connection, and learning that Stage 32 has to offer. Wishing you all the best on your journey!

Pamela Smith

Wishing you good fortune with all your creative projects, Kaitlyn.
