Screenwriting : Featurettes by Federica Lonardoni

Featurettes

Hello everyone, just a quick question.

What do you think about featurettes?

I wrote one and I don't think I can make it work as a feature movie, I am trying to add few more pages but of course all I care about is for the script and the story to work.

Do you think it can be pitchable anyway? Or shorts and feature movies are more likely to be chosen?

Thank you

Maurice Vaughan

I say pitch it, Federica Lonardoni. I've written and pitched featurettes. I also use them as writing samples when I apply for writing jobs. And if you can't sell your featurette, you could turn it into a short script or use it as a writing sample.

My only concern is that I constantly see announcements of producers looking for a short movie or a feature movie.

I am scared 44 pages are both too much and not enough.

But it's my insecurity speaking I fear

Some producers want longer short scripts like 44 pages, Federica Lonardoni. After you finish your featurette, you could work on a short and/or feature while you're pitching the featurette.

Maurice Vaughan thank you for the tips!
