On Writing : Writing a Children’s Book for Adults! by Carlos Joel Arellano

Writing a Children’s Book for Adults!

After finishing my first full length feature screenplay, a demanding, intensive, but rewarding process, I thought I’d dive straight into my next script. I had a whole pipeline of ideas ready to go. But when I gave myself some space to breathe, something unexpected happened.

I found myself journaling feelings, creating little characters to help me process them, and suddenly I wasn’t working on a screenplay at all. I was writing a book. Not a typical children’s book, but a story with that same simple, whimsical style written for adults.

It’s a short, heartfelt piece I think adults especially could connect to (and maybe even need). Every time I’ve shared the idea, the feedback has been incredibly encouraging.

This one is purely a passion project. When it’s finished, I’m planning to upload it online for free and spread QR code posters around my city linking to it. Just a fun, grassroots way of sharing a story that matters to me.

Curious, has anyone else here found themselves accidentally shifting mediums and discovering something unexpected in the process?

Wonderful post Carlos Joel Arellano I like your idea very much and I like how open you are to uploading it online for free. That is so wonderful of you - I'm hoping with it being so available it will inspire others to write their stories too. Thank you so much for letting us know what you are up to!
