Hi Stage 32-ers...
I've been a professional storyteller for about 35 years now, starting off as a radio news journalist before, during and after South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994, followed by stints at various local and national newspapers, then writing a 4-part television mini-series that won some awards and went on to play on national television every year for about 6 years, spent about a year as a commissioning editor, and then started a production company with my then-partner where we produced a feature film, and packaged and pitched a couple of others at the European Film Market in Berlin. After having a kid together, we decided to leave the industry entirely and go live on a farm in a remote part of South Africa for a couple of years; it was a great experience that I'll never regret, but we eventually returned to regular city life. I worked in Strategic Communications for Doctors Without Borders South Africa for a couple of years, creating stories for them around their work in HIV/AIDS, Gender-Based Violence, Antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis, and Xenophobia. Later I also worked in the arena of climate change research. I say all of this not only by way of telling you about my career, but also to clue you in about why I write the kind of screenplays I write: high-concept character-driven narratives rooted in pressing social issues and current events. I have a few projects in various stages of development, and looking to connect with anyone who can help me move them forward...
