Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a great time.
I’m Ali-Akbar, a screenwriter. I often get my ideas from watching films — for example, once while listening to a movie’s dialogue a sudden spark went off in my head and a whole story formed.
When I researched methods of generating ideas, I discovered that some screenwriters even draw inspiration from their dreams!
I’d love to know how you come up with your ideas.
If you’ve written a screenplay that was produced or became successful, I’d be happy to hear where its idea came from.
These experiences are very valuable to me and to those who are new to the industry.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences.

Hi, Ali Akbar Marvi Baygi! Hope you’re having a great time too. I get ideas from photos, videos, real places, my life, history, social media, and asking myself "what if?" My favorite way to come up with ideas is mashing two things together, like two movies.

Hello Ali Akbar Marvi Baygi, great to meet you. I definitely get a lot of ideas from dreams; some of my best projects have come directly out of one. That said, I wouldn’t rely on it consistently for long-term output. I also love science fact videos, music lyrics, short films, game clips, and old folk or mythic stories from different cultures. They all spark different kinds of inspiration and help build unique worlds and characters. Thanks for opening up this conversation.

I love that you get sparks from dialogue. For me, it's often a "what if" scenario sparked by a news article or an interesting person I see. And you're absolutely right about dreams, they're a direct line to our subconscious!

Most come from dreams that I have - and early morning brain releases (where I lay in bed before getting up and just let my mind run free). But they're almost always supplemented by ideas I get through reading, or hearing something on the radio (e.g., news), or even things I see (e.g., movies, commercials, etc.).
