Introduce yourself weekend - reintroducing myself

Hi everyone, I’m Maria Caeiro, a  screenwriter from Portugal focused on  drama and stories rooted in social impact.

While I´m preparing to pitch my feature "Paper Planes",  this weekend I’m excited to share that I’ve begun writing a new short film. It’s a project centered on the themes that move me most: found family, the quiet heroism of women rebuilding themselves after trauma, and the fragile bonds formed on the margins of society. It explores tenderness, survival, queer motherhood, discrimination, and the radical act of choosing to care for someone when the world expects you not to.

I’m in the early writing phase and would love to connect with creatives who resonate with intimate, character‑driven narratives and stories that challenge social norms with heart.

Looking forward to meeting you all and discovering your work.

Character‑driven narratives are so needed these days. Your voice is so important. And by the way, portugal has the power to become a real production hub in the coming years!

Lauren Hackney

Maria Caeiro

Thank you Geoffroy Faugerolas, your opinion is very important. I´m grateful you see value in my voice and in the kind of stories I´m trying to tell. I´m also glad you see my country having power to become a real production hub in the coming years. It´s exciting to image what the next few years could bring.

Maria Caeiro

Hi Lauren Hackney thank for your kind words. Yes, this project I´m starting is very challenging because it´s very emotional from beginning to the end.

Ashley Renée Smith

Maria Caeiro, thank you for reintroducing yourself, it’s so great to see you here. It’s also exciting to hear you’re preparing to pitch Paper Planes while stepping into something new at the same time. That balance of developing multiple projects can really help sharpen your voice.

As you’re in this early writing phase, what’s the emotional core you’re most focused on capturing in this new short right now?

Maria Caeiro

Hi Ashley Renée Smith, thanks. I’m also very excited for being about to pitch my Paper Planes project. As for Shelter, my new short, the emotional core I’m focused on capturing is the complexity of love with in harmful envinronments. While Paper Planes explores the emotional Impact of bullying, this project shirt s to doméstica violência and the different ways people try to love and be loved, including queer parenthood. I want to por trat How tender Mess and dear can coexistir, and how love can take many shapes even in difficult circumstances.

Michael Thorn

hoping your pitch goes well, Maria Caeiro

Sam Rivera

Hey Maria Caeiro! Paper Planes sounds great but that new short sounds really special. The radical act of choosing to care when the world expects you not to is a beautiful theme. What sparked this story for you? Was it something you witnessed or something more personal?

Maria Caeiro

Thanks, Michael Thorn. I’m grateful for your wishes.

Maria Caeiro

Hi, Sam Rivera. Thanks, your opinion is very important to me. I think unconditional love is one of the most important forces in our world, and I’m always trying to highlight that in my writing. I’m drawn to telling the stories of people who are unseen, for whatever reason, regardless of their background or circumstances.
