In the 1960s and '70s, jazz and R&B composers were getting tapped more in movie and TV scoring, including Quincy Jones (1933 - 2024). One of my favorite scores of his is from the Sidney Poitier vehicle, "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs". The catchy main title music is what I remember most about this movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9Mx4wqVXfk
The groove is infectious, and I love the modulation from C#-blues to E-Major and back, also the octotonic scale run by the bass flute + bassoon after the chorus & modulation back to home key. From the bassline to the use of the horns and Hammond B3 organ, this scoring embodies the cool of the main character, Lt. Virgil Tibbs. It's a style of composition I'd love to see revived in police procedurals/crime thrillers.
