Enablers

While you'd be hard pressed to ascertain how much any of us really have in common it would seem that we are all here for a common goal: We want to be storytellers in one form or another or several. But why? What was it that reached out and took hold of you as a young person or even a not-so-young person that made you take the road less traveled by? If it was a particular film what film? A show perhaps? If you're a composer was it a particular hook from a particular score that drove you to see life in terms of music? If you are an actor/actress was it an actor that spoke to you or even a character? Everyone here at some point had a key that turned the ignition that started the car that drove them down the road that led them to where they are now. What was yours? My story is likely not as thrilling or provocative as some. I wasn't born into a life of stage and story. My folks are fairly blue collar and to be honest they look damn good in that color if you take my meaning. But I never quite saw myself doing what everyone else does. I could never pick a nine-to-five. I'm one of those people who's head just belongs in the clouds. Three movies really spoke to me when I was a kid. Batman ('89), Hook, and Jurassic Park. The first two for their strong hero/villain archetypes and theatricality where as the third was more a technical wonder in my eyes. To think they came so close to using stop-motion Dinos... Would've made for such a different film. There's a sense of adventure in those movies that spoke to me as a kid. You sort of become Batman and to an extent the Joker, you're Peter Pan learning how to fly all over again, and on Isla Nublar... You will believe dinosaurs are still live. But afterward I always wanted more. It wasn't enough just to sit and stare at the silver screen. I always came away wanting to be able to take people on rides like I'd just been through; a feeling I still experience to this day. These days those three films aren't necessarily among my favorite movies as my influences have changed considerably throughout years and years of broadening my horizons, and yet I still hold a particular fondness for my little trinity. And that's sort of the beauty of it right? No one can tell you you're wrong for why you love doing what you love doing because only you can feel it, and if you don't feel it you might as well pull the car over. But that's enough about X. Let's talk about Y as in You. -X
