Award-winning screenplay and stage play now free of option and available: Log Line: When a good, hard-working man loses his daughter to an elderly drunk driver, he becomes obsessed with the killer. Hiding his identity, he infiltrates the driver’s life and faces a horrible choice – kill the old man for revenge or somehow make the killer’s misspent existence worthy of his daughter’s life. Summary: MICHAEL AUGUSTINE is an honest, hard-working repairman in Traverse City, MI. He lives with his wife (JOSIE) and his daughter (RACHEL) in a simple, happy home. To Michael, the responsibilities of father are paramount, but they extend only to providing food and shelter while promoting discipline. He is a honest, but sober man of repressed affection. His comfortable, orderly world blasts apart when a drunk driver kills his daughter, plunging he and his wife into grief. With his marriage in limbo, Michael becomes obsessed with the man who killed his daughter (JERRY BEEHAN). The old man is a lonely alcoholic slowly wasting away from a myriad of illnesses. Not knowing how to reclaim his devastated life, Michael leaves his wife with the intention of killing Jerry and avenging his daughter’s life. Michael travels to Jerry’s hometown and rents a room in his decrepit house. Over the coming days, he discovers that the old man’s misspent life is almost a just punishment in itself. Also, Jerry has a daughter of his own, Katy – a drug addict alienated from her father. After discovering Jerry is also a father, Michael cannot find it in himself to murder the old man, despite his grief and rage. As the hatred for Jerry gives way to pity, Michael discovers that killing the man would not honor Rachel, but if Michael could save the old man from himself, he might somehow make Jerry’s life more worthy of his daughter’s memory. Katy and Michael forge a tenuous friendship, as Michael becomes a surrogate father to the addict. He encourages her to seek treatment. But, a confrontation with Jerry plunges Katy back into drugs. When she discovers that her father killed Michael’s daughter, she goes to kill Jerry – to enact the revenge that Michael chose not to complete. Michael rushes to save the man he originally came to kill. Otherwise, Jerry’s life will end in meaningless violence, and Katy will spend the rest of her days in jail. Michael prevents Katy from killing Jerry, but the old man dies of a heart attack during the excitement. The last image Jerry sees is Michael holding Katy – his daughter finally safe. With Jerry gone, Katy is free to move on with her life, and Michael can go home. After leaving Katy at the treatment center, Michael returns to Josie.
