Filmmaking / Directing : Reality Show Pitch by John Steen

Hi, was wondering if anyone has experience/advice in pitching a reality show? I've been shooting a pilot episode past few months for a truly groundbreaking show. Something that is not currently out there. Our plan is to shoot pilot, issue press release everywhere, do an Indiegogo, etc but some actor friends suggested just do the pitch, so nobody will steal your idea. But, researching it online, it seems harder than expected. We're going with a "build it & they will come" strategy. I also think once we're ready to announce, to bombard networks & people on Twitter & we'll get some attention to idea? We also think we can get a lot of help/support in SF, which hasn't seen a reality show since 1994. I've contacted my local agent, talent agents, etc & waiting to hear back. Just not sure what the best route to go is? Thanks everyone. John
