Hello all! I'm heading to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first two weeks of August, with my comedy group The Dead Secrets. Venue sorted, some reviews sorted, accommodation sorted - any tips of things to do, be aware of, avoid while performing at the Fringe? :) Ida
Hi Lauren - thanks for getting in touch :) Would love to hear more about what you are planning. The Fringe is a strange, giant, but excellent beast. Pretty much anyone can go and put on a show - all down to timing and budget! It all adds up (venue, accommodation, publicity, getting in the Fringe programme etc - but if there's a few of you then the costs can spread a bit). I'll send you some links and details. I guess the two things to do first are to organise your accommodation and venue, which go very quickly. This needs to be done around December/January time. You can either apply to some of the larger venues for a show, or choose a venue where you pay for a slot depending on their availability. We did the the latter - to ensure we got a venue, as it's our first time up. But, as I say, I'll send some more stuff. Would love to hear more about your comedy as well. We are just gearing up for our next improv show in May - can't wait, love the stuff :)
Hi best thing you can do is call Edinburgh college and stay there. they rent rooms that are great during the summer and have a great breakfast every morning that seems a mile long. They also have a great upstairs cafe for evenings to hang out and it's a great location. We loved the festival. Also, try to get tickets to the Royal Tattoo that takes place at the sometime at the Castle. there is nothing like watching 400 bagpipers!! The college offers the best price on your stay.
