Post-Production : Hey! by Alannah Phillips

Alannah Phillips

Hey!

Hello my name is Alannah, i'm 15 years old. I'm an amature special effects makeup artist. I'm looking for a professional to help me out with learning new thing, tricks, and tips. I do mostly gorey and if you have a play of short film that your doing, in the need of gore, I'm who your looking for!

Mike Porter

Alannah, Gore is good, but there is so much more to makeup artistry than gore. I started out in the Haunted House industry and went through a lot of blood, but found more joy in theatre characterization. My advice is to start volunteering in community theatre. Start making connections that way, and learn theatrical makeup from an experienced designer. Learn the subtleties of makeup artistry and you'll find that you'll be wanted and needed for many more projects and different kinds of projects than just gore.

Mike, I don't just do gore I do many other things, but I love to do gore. I am more talented in gore than in theater characterization, but I do do that.

That's awesome! I just looked through your photos, and I see that you're on the right track. Keep it up, and good luck in your future.

Hi Allanah, There are books that can teach you some basic fx techniques to help your "gore" look more realistic. I would also advise you to study books that deal with forensics so you can see the anatomy of the actual injuries you are trying to re-create. And of course when you graduate high school, go to a school for makeup artistry. You can only learn so much from books and internet. A great teacher is key. I went to Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry in Florida and it was the best decision I could have made.
