With regards to SHOW REELS for editors - the one thing you have to make clear if you are an offline or online editor. Offline will mean you make most of the "creative" decisions shot selection, cuts or effects (never mind how it looks especially for effects Online editors are master's of effects just make sure what you want it to look like in the finished product - sending notes to producers and online supervisors will be a great way to communicate your vision). Online you have to master the software for the best outcome as your input is what goes to air or printed for film. Get a clear note from the offline editor and their producer as to what they want in the edit. So my thought make sure what you are and make it clear when you have a show reel, Offline editors don't need to finesse their edits, Online you better finesse your edits and color correct as a show reel. Offline if your story line even if it is from various projects is not something your audience will understand you have a problem - Online if your reel looks impeccable visually you are a winner straight away. Just a thought will write about my experiences as a director soon.
