So what does everyone think of Indiegogo? Does it work? How does it work? Are many of the donations 'random' or from people you know? I'm thinking of setting up a profile for my current VMS project... Any hints or tips? Thanks...
I also believe that the biggest difference between IndieGoGo and Kickstarter is that you get the keep the funding you raised with IndieGoGo even if you have not met your target. Whilst you don't get a single penny through Kickstarter if you have not raised the total amount.
Hey Stephen, I am using IndieGoGo and it's going quite successfully so far. Only a couple weeks on it, but it's doing great. I think it's got a recognizable name and that helps a lot. Plus, if you look at mine you can see a strategic "perk" I did for the $100 donation, which is the "default" donation. Makes it a bit of a contest and I think that can help. Plus, you have to update every week and you're 130% more likely to get donations they say. I updated once then accidentally erased it last night. LOL Still, I think IndieGoGo is great. And I believe they only take that 9% up until you reach or exceed your goal, then it drops down. I highly recommend. Yes, there's other sites, but other than Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, who's really got their name out there. Have fun and wish you fantastic success.
Also, post it on everyones individual Facebook pages that ya can, offering comments on how they helped inspire you to get this done or something to that nature....not lying, but sometimes putting a little extra jam on the bread will make them feel more attached to the project and want to contribute.
Facebook contacts mainly, yes. I post it on as many of their walls, talk them up when needed and ask that if they can't contribute, to at least please post it on a few friends walls. That sort of thing.
From IndieGoGo: "4% IndieGoGo Fee When your campaign raises money, IndieGoGo charges a 4% fee on the money you raise. If you don't reach your goal, the fee is 9% on the money you raise. If you have opted for Fixed Funding (all-or-nothing) and don't meet your goal, all the money raised will be refunded to the contributors and no fees will be incurred."
I'm currently setting up a profile on it. But by no means do i expect it to make any money. I'm contacting business', chasing charities and private investers as well. But if in the meantime Indiegogo makes a little extra cash - bonus.
Well they take up to 9% of what is paid in I think...

There is also this: [www.sponsume.com/][1] I'm researching it now. [1]: http://www.sponsume.com/
Thanks for the link, Stephen! I am researching it as well as we speak.

Cool, thanks for that. So who would you say it is that mainly donates to yours? Facebook contacts, personal contacts, random, business?

I've had more friends of friends donate than actual friends. LMAO Kind of funny...kind of sad. LOL

I think you may have discovered the horrible answer to the question 'Is Indiegogo too good to be true?'... yes, probably.
Brilliant quote.
I suppose. However if you have nothing to lose you may as well try, it is free to use.

Didn't work for me and my project, so I'm too bias about it
