You can always add more but you can never take away. When you bulk up your screenplay with complicated scenes, numerous locations, a huge cast of characters, special effects, bridges, planes, babies, whales and/or volcanoes, you put a BIG price tag on the making of it, and most films that get made today are in the low to mid-budget range. Why, even superhero films are getting made for less at Warner Bros these days! So while I know it's jazzing to write whatever your imagination conceives, if you can keep your locations, characters and scene changes to a minimum, you have a better chance of attracting money and producers. Think horror films--this doesn't have to be your genre, but they are traditionally among the most inexpensive films to make, because a lot of the action takes place in just a few locations.
