I've worked with her before and she is fabulous. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The information she gives is valuable and delivered in a positive manner. Enjoy your time with her. You're in for a treat.
Thanks Mark, I am sure Pilar is great though have to giggle when I see these seminars by people who have absolutely no writing credits themselves. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0021264/
I was chatting to her years ago about coming out here. I'm surprised she hasn't sent emails to her Aussie mailing list, then again, I haven't received anything from her for a while.

Alex, she may not have writing credentials on IMDb, but she worked for Spielberg as well as the studios, and was the one who found "Saving Private Ryan" in the script pile and elevated it to Spielberg. She's read hundreds if not thousands of scripts and been influential in getting a number of them made. To think she has no credentials or doesn't know what she's talking about would be a mistake. If you're looking for someone to help you take the next step, she's one of the best.
Nicely put Mark. I've learned that the coach's role is to draw the best from his players and position them according to their strengths and weaknesses, which a good coach can identify. He doesn't need to have been a star player - just have the understanding of what's required. Meanwhile there are a bunch of great writers who simply cannot impart their skill and knowledge to anyone else. Teaching is a great skill - I'm looking forward to Pilar's visit. A close friend in LA thinks the world of her and her teaching!

Totally agree with you Amanda! Teaching, and being able to break down, story is a specific and unique skill. I've worked with Pilar a few times, and can tell you that she is BRILLIANT. She gets story and gets how to break it down and help writers push their work to the next level in the best way. The best players, the best teams, are lead by great coaches. Why not writers?
