Screenwriting Resources

It just occurred to me that we as screenwriters often need to do research for our stories. Hunting down the information we need can take a considerable amount of time - if it's available at all. But with such a diverse group of people, Stage 32 may have the resources you are looking for. I am willing to share my expertise with anyone who needs it. I know commercial aircraft, having been an engineer with a major aircraft manufacturer for 22 years (this occurred to me while watching Flight Plan). Need to know something about airplanes? I'm here to help. I am also an expert at fly fishing, having done that for 37 years. Who else out there has expertise they'd be willing to share with screenwriters on Stage 32? There are probably doctors, lawyer, firemen, and law enforcement officers out there with a wealth of knowledge. Reply and tell us where your expertise lies.

Mine is health sciences, environment and medical. I can usually at least direct a person to the right avenue with references. In the medical and health research world references are always important. Which leads me to an idea. Most my research notes for one of my screenplays where hand-written unorganized scribble. Although I enjoy research that way perhaps I ought to catalog and organize my research and brainstorm notes. But then again it is kind of cool what is left after compiling and making such a mess. LOL! A nice tight little package on plain white paper condensed so pretty. Good point Mark I really could have used you exploring S.S.T.'s, refueling procedures, FAA, etc., etc., etc. I spent a whole day on that. Mental note Mark= Airplanes flying like fish. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer, Mark. I had just been working with a kind fellow about Corporate jets and fittings for the interior, pilot small talk, protocols in takeoffs - landings for a drama. This background info is so important even if it is just referenced. I may PM you late for a question or two. If I ever hit the market, I will keep you in mind for connecting with others. My working background may not be as useful as yours, but my understanding of midwestern mindset and my observations of my current home in SWFL may come in handy for any writers looking for some local attitudes/flavor for authenticating a locale.

I've worker in a state prison for the past ten years, so I could be of assistance in any prison stories or anything related. I also have knowledge for any stories related to camping and the like.

Fantastic topic - great idea for a category here on Stage 32. My life has always centered around the creative (arts, advertising, film making and of course with that comes an expertise in all things liquid). I spend a ton of time on research - it leads to many story threads that would have otherwise gone ignored. For my perspective, I will offer that at one time I had to teach a class to the account rep and reporter staff at the New York Times on how to be creative. The cliff notes is learn to be a sponge of nature (human mostly but the other is just as important). Feel free to reach out - I'll offer what I can.
