Science-fiction realm

Hey good people of stage32, i'm writing a story and it would be very helpful if any science fiction screenwriter can share little bit of his/her research or opinion on my following question. - what kind of goals one (technologically forward than us) will have if he/she is stranded on a planet where no intelligent life exist other than him/her exist, no creepy creatures, no green men? - What are the unique ways through which you conduct research (apart from internet) when you write a science-fiction story? Additional suggestions are welcome. Thank you Navneet sethia P.S: if any of you would like to give any suggestions by email then my email address is below. email id is: neetsethia@gmail.com

Survival is #1 priority, rescue is second, so that means getting a message of some sort out. It could be a natural based signal from the planet to any ships in orbit or a transmitter of current tech. A third goal would be trying to not lose a sense of civilization. I think "Castaway" did a good job of that. Essentially, you'll want to research any survival situation in which a person is outside of civilization. It still happens here on Earth and the concepts don't change on another world. But, is the character a survivalist? Does he/she come from a background that would teach such a thing?
