Introduce Yourself : New to Stage 32. by Steven Ballesteros

New to Stage 32.

Hi All. My name is Steven Ballesteros and I live in Tucson, Arizona. I'm set to graduate from high school in less than a month. That may sound a bit funny, so far it looks like most people on this site have more experience and are older than myself. Either way, I've been involved as President, an actor, and a technical theatre student in my school's drama program for 3 years now. I plan to continue my passion for the theatre arts past high school whatever I decide on doing when I graduate. (Which may be community college) I heard about Stage 32 and thought it sounded interesting but I don't know much about it other than what I read online. My question is: Would you recommend Stage 32 as a networking site for someone who is just at the beginning of their acting career? If not, what online alternatives are better? And lastly, I'd love to hear some suggestions that you think are appropriate for me. I'm a hard worker and have already reached out to my directors, teachers, and friends to help me with college auditions and job shadowing, etc. I figure asking this my help guide me into focusing my goals, I welcome it because I know I'll need it. Thank You.

Just be grateful that you are young and have a lifetime to grow and gain experince!

being younger than all of us just means, that you are ahead of schedule. nothing is wrong with that. As far as networking. I dont do a whole lot of networking on here I mostly just like to read interesting things about the industry. The best networking tip I can give you is, get a sales job. Become very outgoing and talk to everyone. It will help a lot. Then when you go to acting classes and auditions make friends. Talk to people and add them on facebook. Ask people questions and get to know people. Oh, and living in a big city helps.

Passion is the key. If you follow that, always keeping your goals in mind, it doesn't matter how old you are, it's experience which counts. May I suggest you join your local community theatre and learn the 'ropes' outside the very protected school confines? You'll build up a network naturally and find lots of ways to follow your bliss. Best of luck for the future.

"If I knew then what I know now..." One of the great things about stage32 is that you can learn what seasoned pros have spent decades learning. Be active in the lounge. Be active in the world at large. The first will help you network and learn, the second will help you develop your voice. Kubirk and Hitchcock were both brilliant, but neither could have made the other's films. Make sure neither could make yours as well.

I would go to Phillips meetings. If you were closer to Mesa, I would welcome you to work with me.

Steven, it sounds like you have great plans, this site can only help. The networking you may create, could bear fruit in ways you may not have even imagined. Good Luck, Billy
