Seems like I've always been able to make stuff up. Not lies, you understand - it's always been too much trouble to keep lies straight - but creative stuff. I worked for a lot of years as a carpenter, a job that involves a lot of creative problem-solving but I was in my 40s before I began writing seriously. I had a weekly newspaper column for several years, Didn't pay for beans but it taught me to write. I could write about anything so I got to practice different styles, tell stories using lots of dialog, practice my satire, and develop my particular style of dry humor. Eventually I wrote a three act play. It was produced (successfully, I might add) in the spring of 2009 by the Vermont Theatre Company in Dummerston Center, Vermont, and has since been published. And now I've written and published a novel, GRANTS FERRY. I've been asked over an over whether I'll write another column. I think not. No more weekly deadlines. How about a play? Well, I've now written a play, haven't I? A sequel to the novel? No, I've told that story. So what's next? Well a film adaptation of GRANTS FERRY would be interesting so I'm working on that. And why not? It's the next thing, isn't it?
Hello, I roofed my way through college and continue to take on carpentry work to help me expand creative thinking. I've been script writing for the last four years and there is a lot to learn, very different from other writing. Keep moving on and don't forget your square and level.
