An associate in the business has read my spec for a television series. He also suggested I submit my work to a particular cable network as opposed to submitting to a television production company? Okay, so I go online and read the cable network's submission policy and these particular paragraphs, caught my attention as follows: "A lot of the material we receive includes and/or is comprised of materials, suggestions or ideas which are identical or substantially similar to those which have been previously developed by our XXXXX staff. Also, a lot of the materials we receive includes and/or is comprised of materials, suggestions or ideas which are identical or substantially similar to those which have been submitted by other people outside of the company. Therefore, XXXXX may begin using material similar or identical to yours which we received after the date of your submission. " To protect both you and our company, XXXXX has outlined a policy regarding such submissions and materials in order to explain the process of reviewing, investigating, inspecting and evaluating these materials. Based on this policy, XXXXX can receive and review materials only if it is left up to us to determine whether we have in fact used these ideas and to decide what compensation, if any, should be paid in event of use." Really? So my question is.....Are all submission policies pretty much the same including for television? If so, this makes me feel very uncomfortable, as it seems they could easily "TAKE ME FOR A RIDE" if they like my material. Please...."HELP!"
Thank you George...I see what you are talking about :)
Absolutely Andrew! That's exactly how it sounds to me and my reason for not sending in my spec. I want to be picked up like a lot of individuals on this platform, but not in a sense where I wind up getting "jerked" around!
Absolutely George! Considered =)
Well I do have all my screenplays registered with WGAw..however, I do not have an agent...So, I guess this is something I need to look into asap. Thanks for your advice George!
Okay...I see..Will do!
