Hi everyone , just finished watching the movie - American Hustle . It was a great movie but not the epic types , just after I finished the movie I was asking myself what doesn't make it great for me. I arrived to the following conclusions , throw in your views to help me broaden my vision 1. The timing of flashback , I cant get it . A flashback in reality is analogous to a wiped out zone which is caused when something really hits us at an emotional and mental level. What hit Christian Bale that leads to the whole survival theory and flashback followed is questionable ? 2. The POV methodology used, is confusing, when does Bradley jumps I didn't realize, hence I had to rewind it 3. Due to multiple narrations and screen space divided so evenly among the characters, I thought more stress was laid upon the goals to be achieved rather than the growth of the character. Each of the four main characters has lot on stake hence inhibiting their growth, for example the relationship between Amy and Bradley develops is a bit questionable. Bradley truly falling for Amy I never saw that . Does Amy ever really loved him is a question unanswered . Christian's relationship with his son is one of the prime and subtle important anchor and the only reason he stays to agree with Bradley . But hello , where is the scene depicting emotions of a father- son except where he talks to him for a mere scene. "Character is action . What your character is not what he says but what he does" 4. Good time spent on developing relationship between Christian Bale and Amy Adams which pays off. 5. The Sheikh scene is a complete flaw when Robert de niro shoots him in Arabic, he replies with a pause. Its a complete flaw let me explain how, This all starts when we are shown the new sheikh in a plane and Christian Bale asks him about his Arabic and he replies "Assalamu alaikum and few phrases" which is analogous in English to " Hello and a few phrases" . But when he converses with Robert de niro he speaks fluently and moreover lets assume he knows Arabic , the way he talks to the Shiekh (commanding and dominating , moreover trusting his real identity) should not had been tolerated but we see the Shiekh getting up and forwarding his hand . Sorry its a flaw. should had researched before the scene . The one who would not notice it, will list it as a one of the best scenes of the movie 6. My favorite scene - Jenifer Lawrence and Amy Adams kiss, Lawrence saying " maybe he love us for that . At least he is consistent in that"
